JOURNALISM EDUCATION JOBS
UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA SEEKS DIRECTOR
The College of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences (COAFES) at the University of Minnesota is seeking a full-time Director of Communications to coordinate and direct the public relations and communications program for the College. Qualifications include a bachelor's degree in communication, English or relevant field; 7-10 years of communications or public relations experience; and demonstrated success in developing and implementing strategic communications programs. BUFFALO STATE COLLEGE ANNOUNCES FACULTY POSITION
The Communication Department seeks candidates for an assistant professor (tenure track) in journalism/new media. Position begins August 2002. Required Qualifications: Master's degree and demonstrated professional experience in print journalism and online media; Ph.D. preferred. Able to teach: Introduction to Media Writing, Information Gathering (research and interviewing), Writing for News (advanced newswriting), News Reporting, and Web Publishing. Preferred Qualifications: Ability to teach: Copy Editing or Computer-Assisted Reporting, plus an ability to supervise online student publications, supervise interns, and develop new media courses. Research and publication agenda is expected, with service to the college and community. Competitive salary with excellent benefits. The Communication Department offers professionally-oriented major programs in journalism, broadcasting, public communication (public relations and advertising), and mass media, plus minor programs in speech and writing. There are openings for two students to assist the Office of the Provost with its web staff.

ANN ARBOR NEWS SEEKS ASSISTANT METRO EDITOR

JOURNAL SEEKS ASSISTANT NEWS EDITOR

The Duke University Medical Center News Office is seeking a senior public relations specialist. The News Office is a fast-paced, team-oriented environment that also handles media relations for Duke University Health System. The major beat this position will cover is the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center. The successful candidate will research and write news releases and pitch stories to local, regional and national news media. NOVA SEEKS EXPECTING MOTHER
NOVA, the PBS science documentary program, is looking for an expecting mother with a writing background who is interested in keeping a weekly journal of her pregnancy and delivery experience. The journal would be featured on the companion Web site to the NOVA program "Life's Greatest Miracle," a remake of Lennart Nilsson's world famous film "Miracle of Life," the most widely viewed NOVA in the program's 30 years. SCIENCE WRITERS NEEDED FOR HUMAN BODY REFERENCE SERIES
Experienced science writers are wanted for a new reference series on the major systems of the human body. Each volume of the series will examine a specific body system in detail (for example, circulatory, respiratory, etc.). The series will be targeted at the secondary school and introductory college level. Authors should be familiar with presenting scientific, medical or technical material to the general public. CANCER CENTER SEEKS WRITER
The Lombardi Cancer Center is seeking an exceptional scientific and medical writer who will lead our efforts to produce internal and external
publications. As a senior member of our professional administrative staff, you will need to understand and stay current with the Lombardi mission, programs, changes in the field of cancer for the purposes of producing written documents that describe our work. You will serve as the writer/editor/producer of our annual report, our Lombardi Magazine, and contribute substantially to our website content. FOUNDATION SEEKS WRITERS AND EDITORS FOR FREELANCE PROJECTS
The William T. Grant Foundation seeks science writers and editors for ongoing freelance projects. Several writers and editors are needed for the following projects:
* Distilling book chapters and journal articles into 1-2 page articles for policy makers, youth service practitioners, and/or the interested lay public
* Synthesizing research on selected social science themes or topics for various non-academic audiences
* Writing press releases for the above articles.
Requirements for writers and editors include:
* Extensive professional writing/editing experience consistent with the Foundation's projects
* Background in the social sciences (e.g., psychology, sociology)
* Highly skilled at interpreting and summarizing social science literature for various non-academic audiences, with a particular emphasis on policy makers, practitioners, and the interested lay public
* Experience in translating social science research concerning young people (age 8-25 years).
